For publishers · Parks and agencies
Park maps that keep working past the last bar of signal.
Put your park, forest or preserve maps on visitors’ phones, free or paid, with their GPS position on your map offline. Post closures where visitors will see them, and keep internal maps for staff private.
No monthly fee. Cartahaven keeps 20% of each paid sale (at least $0.50); free maps cost nothing.
Who it’s for
- State, county and city park systems
- Forest, recreation and public-land offices
- Nature centers, preserves and visitor centers
- Tourism offices and heritage areas with trail or driving-tour maps
How it works
Upload the maps you print
The GeoPDFs from your GIS or print shop work as they are; we never re-encode them. A whole folder uploads at once.
Make them free, or charge
Free maps cost nothing to list. If you sell maps, your share goes to your organization’s Stripe account on each sale.
Put QR signs where people start
Print a sign for each map from the dashboard for trailheads, kiosks and visitor-center counters, or put the code on the back of the paper map.
Post notices
Closures, reroutes and hazards go on the map as notices that reach visitors who have it, offline.
What you get
Free maps, no fee
Give maps away at no cost to you or the visitor. A visitor needs a free account to keep a map in the app.
QR signs and website embeds
Vector QR signs ready for a sign shop, and a copy-paste map card for your own website.
Notices and editions
Notices pinned on the map, and new editions that owners get free, with a note of what changed.
Staff and private maps
Invite colleagues as admins, editors or viewers, keep internal maps private, and give them to staff or volunteers through member lists.
Ratings and requests
Visitors who own a map can review it and you can reply; the public map-request board shows which areas people want maps of.
Downloads by edition
See downloads per map and per edition, with CSV export.
For field staff: Cartahaven Teams
Rangers, fire crews and survey staff need more than a map: Cartahaven Teams pushes required maps to every phone, collects field data on your own forms, and shows live positions when staff share them. Plans from $199 a year; invoice and purchase order accepted. Procurement questions (data location, retention, subprocessors, W-9 and DPA) are answered on security, privacy and procurement.
Work out your earnings
Type your own numbers. Everything is worked out in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.
$1.99 to $1,000.00
A whole number
Our assumption: 30% for an in-app purchase. Change it.
| Store | Per sale | A month | A year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cartahaven | $3.99 | $159.60 | $1,915.20 |
| Avenza Map Store split | $1.75 | $70.00 | $840.00 |
You keep 80% of the price on Cartahaven, against 35% under Avenza’s split with a 30% cut first.
How this is worked out
- Cartahaven: price − fee, where the fee is 20% of the price, at least $0.50, rounded to the cent. Card processing is included in the fee. You keep 80% (less on maps under $2.50, where the $0.50 minimum applies).
- Avenza: (price − the app store or card cut) × 50%. Avenza’s Map Store Publisher Agreement gives the publisher “50% of the net of all amounts received… net of any taxes, refunds, credits, commissions, Affiliate fees, Processor fees and other costs” (agreement, PDF). It doesn’t say how big those cuts are, so the cut is yours to set: Apple and Google take a commission on in-app purchases, and a card processor takes a few percent on a web sale. We assume no taxes, refunds or affiliate fees, which would only lower the Avenza figure.
- Avenza pays out on request by email, at a minimum of $100 (same agreement). Cartahaven pays your share to your Stripe account on each sale.
- Avenza’s Map Store is not taking new publishers or new map uploads (publisher FAQ), so this comparison is for publishers already selling there. Sales tax collected at checkout is separate on both.
- Sales a month is your guess; we don’t predict sales.
