Cartahaven vs onX Hunt

onX Hunt is the best-known hunting map app, built on private land ownership data. Cartahaven does a different job: it opens the GeoPDF maps that agencies publish, such as travel management maps, motor vehicle use maps and unit maps, for free and offline, with public land and hunting units included. Here is how they compare. onX Offroad and onX Backcountry are separate apps with their own memberships[3]; most of what follows applies to them too.

  • Hunt planning data: draw odds, tag and harvest trends[10], cellular trail camera integration[14], recent and leaf-off imagery[13].
  • Native apps in the App Store and Google Play today, with CarPlay and Android Auto[21]. Cartahaven’s app store apps are on the way.

Keep onX for private land and open the agency GeoPDFs for your unit in Cartahaven. Waypoints and tracks move between them as GPX: export from one, import into the other.
